Parveen is an exceptional educator who demonstrates her passion for teaching, and is loved by her students and families.  She creates a classroom that provides all children with a sense of belonging.  Parveen continuously provides a culturally responsive, student-centered and inclusive learning environment that keeps children engaged and supports the individualized needs of all children toward positive outcomes.  She is a wonderful leader and plays a critical role in building and strengthening relationships with new teachers, and promoting high-quality learning experiences in the field of early education.

Douglas Horton has been a stabilizing force at S. Williams Abel Academy.  Due to his efforts, his students feel supported and safe.  This feeling, coupled with Douglas’s work with the students, has allowed them to progress by leaps and bounds.  Educational Services is proud to have Douglas on its team, and he has rightfully earned the title of Teacher of the Year.

Emily Abken has been the foundation for Special Education at Egling Middle School for 20 years.  She is passionate about her students, dedicated to her craft, and collaborative with her colleagues.  Emily is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to teach and make learning meaningful for her students.  She leads by example and is always willing to go above and beyond for her students.  Emily is an extraordinary Special Education teacher, and simply a great person.  She always puts others before herself, and is the biggest advocate for her students.  The Colusa County Office of Education is lucky to have Emily, and it is a better place because of her.

Zachary Troughton is a kind, knowledgeable, and engaging Special Education Teacher with the Colusa County SELPA.  He is exceptionally attentive and responsive to feedback, and is constantly endeavoring to improve his teaching practice.  Zach has created a positive and inclusive classroom that promotes a climate of learning.  He truly cares for his students, even helping a family to organize a fundraiser for an injured student this year.  Furthermore, he has gone above and beyond to engrain himself into the school culture by taking on additional roles such as coaching and refereeing.  He is a true asset to his district and to the Special Education Local Plan Area.
