CHILDREN'S SERVICES

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide coordinated child care and development services to children, parents, and providers; and to provide resources and collaboration with educational entities, health and human service agencies, and community groups serving children and families in Colusa County.

The following programs/services are either provided or coordinated within Colusa County Office of Education – Children’s Services:

Alternative Payment

  • Child care for children from income eligible families for children ages birth to 12

Child Care Center Food Program

  • Nutritious meals for children enrolled in the site based centers

Early Head Start/Head Start/Pre-Kindergarten & Family Literacy/State Preschool

  • Provides services to families to help promote their personal growth and growth within their community
  • Early childhood education services to all children, including those with special needs
  • Environment that promotes cognitive, social, emotional, and gross motor learning and exploration for children

 Family Day Care Food Program

  • Nutritious meals for children in licensed family day care and training in nutrition for child care providers

Home Base

  • Provides all Early Head Start/Head Start program services in the family home setting to children ages birth to 5 years
  • Group socializations are provided monthly for parental growth and education

Infant/Toddler & Preschool Full Day/Year Round Child Development Centers

  • Child Care Center programs available in Arbuckle, Colusa, and Williams
  • Serves children 6 weeks to 5 years of age
  • Offers a warm, nurturing environment which provides developmentally appropriate activities to meet the individual needs of each child
  • Nutritious meals and snacks are provided

Local Child Care Planning Council

The primary mission of the Colusa County Local Child Care Planning Council (LPC) is to plan for child care and development services based on the needs of families in the local community.  Through collaboration, planning, training, and advocacy, the LPC will serve as a forum to address the child care needs of all families in the community, for all types of child care, both subsidized and non-subsidized.

Respite

  • Child care by referral for children at risk or in need of protection from child abuse or neglect

Resource & Referral

  • Information to help parents find child care
  • Information and training for licensed day care providers for children ages birth to 12 years

Program Eligibility

Children’s Services has programs that serve the children of parents who are working, looking for work or who are in training.  Subsidized Child Care is available to families who meet the State’s income and eligibility requirements of the California Department of Education Child Development Division or the Federal Head Start / Early Head Start program.

 In addition Migrant Child Care eligibility prioritizes:

  • Children who have migrated within one year
  • Children who have migrated in the past five years
  • Children whose parents receive half of their income from agriculture related work
